Make sortable, importable list in Word

By BODA ·
I need to make a list on Word 2000 which has five information categories (one sortable). The list has to be able to be used in mail merge for envelopes, labels and form letters. I know it can be done, and probably easily but I'm now hours into the frustration zone. Step-by-step info would be nice.

Go to Tools>Mail Merge (in 2002+ it's letters and mailings)
Follow the wizard through till it asks to choose a Data source. Click Create and the program will walk you through the process.
Here are some links that will help:

Good answer but I've done all that and still have the remaining questions re: sorting, using what I've created and entering new data. I'm really WORD-challenged here! Thus the step-by-step query.

If you are using Word to store your data, each field will have a name such as Address, FirstName, etc.
That's called the header row.
When you want to sort, select the data and go to Table>Sort
Make sure that My list has a header row is selected.
You can now choose the column to sort by.
New data can be added to the end of the list/table.
Sorting and data manipulation is actualy easier if you use Excel as your data source.
