Making and Restoring Images.

By catsforus ·
I would like to know what is the best software to use for the following.

I want to be able to make an image of a HD, store this on a portable USB drive. When I need to restore this image onto a PC I would need to boot-up onto the CD Rom image software that has USB support. I will now be able to restore the image from the portable USB Drive.

I have had a look at Acronis True Image and this does what I need except for the fact it does not see any other drive except those installed on the PC. So now I would need to carry the image on a Hard Drive and every time I need to restore it would have to temporally install this drive onto the PC.

Talk to Acronis?

They must have some kind of support for USB hard drives. Call support-- they've been helpful for me in the past.

Drive Image

I've been using Drive Image 5 since it was released. I find it easier for me to burn the image to a cd than to carry around a USB drive.
When I have the system just the way a client likes i'll image it then burn to a cd.

also consider networking

One more thought: Acronis can see drives shared across networks.

USB and Acronis

Jump on Acronis' forum and check out the USB threads. I know that USB drives work, I even use my Jump drive with Acronis. It might? be the brand of your USB drive not supported yet. Check their site for the newest ver.
