Mal/spyware virus problems

By caillou ·
One of my two computers is completely non operative (safe mode) after being invaded by various kinds of spyware and malware. Since I cannot use that machine how can I get it cleaned and back in operation? It operates on Windows XP

See how you go with this

The Windows Vista Recovery CD is a <b>smaller</b> Download than a lot of other Tools and can be used to Boot to a Command Prompt where you can connect to a <b>USB Device to run Antivirus software.</b>

<br><br>
It does'nt matter if the Default Operating System is XP based it can still be used on XP PRO or XP Home.

<b>Creating a Windows Vista Recovery CD</b>
<br><br>
http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=622
<br><br>
<b>Download from here:</b> and Burn it to CD using Nero or similar.
<br><br>
http://coblitz.codeen.org/neosmart.net/downloads/guides/Vista_Repair/Vista_Recovery_Disc_x86.iso
<br><br>

Boot from the CD and on the first screen click Next, click Repair your computer, click Next and select Command Prompt.
<br><br>

Type in <b>cd E:</b> and press <b>Enter</b> or the corresponding Drive Letter of the USB Device. eg: c: is normally where the Operating System is installed. Unless you have your Drive Partitioned the next Drive Letter would be allocated to your Cd/DVD Drive. If E: does'nt work try F:
<br><br>
When you have changed directory type in <b<sophos.bat</b> and press Enter.
<br><br>
Let it do its work and when it has finished resart the PC and enter Safe Mode by pressing <b>F8</b>continuously as the PC starts up.
<br><br>

You can now select Safe Mode GUI and and turn off System Restore then run Spybot from the USB Stick. Take a note of what it finds.
<br><br>

From another PC download and install these two programs and copy the the installed folders to a USB Stick.
<br><br>
Restart the PC in Safe Mode and run Sophos and then run Spybot.
<br><br>
Download Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.5.2 and install it. Update it. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
<br><br>

Download Sophos and the latest IDE Files. Install it and extract the IDE files to the C:\SAV32CLI folder.
<br><br>
http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/13251.html
<br><br>
Copy and paste the below two lines into Notepad and save the file to the USB Stick as sophos.bat, it will scan and remove. When the Scan has finished check the log file to see what it hasn't removed. You will normally find the answer to this via Google.
<br><br>
===============================
<br><br>
CD SAV32CLI
<br><br>
SAV32CLI -REMOVE -P=C:\REMOVLOG.TXT
<br><br>
===============================
<br><br>
The Sophos SAV32CLI folder can be safely deleted after it is copied to USB.

<br><br>
Just to be on the safe side when you finish do an online scan with Bitdefender.

<br><br>

Remember to turn on System Restore when you have finished cleaning.

After saying thankyou I now have to ask you another question re the creating of Windows Recovery CD. You said download it from here...and I typed in the site but can't find the download. Can you further help re where to find the download in question? P.S. I just studied the info. again. I think I see what you mean now. I need to download it to a CD directly from TechRepublic site. Thanks. Sorry to bother you.
