WOW! There sure are alot of comments regarding this poor soul who is “stuck in a rut”. A HUGE misconception in the world today is just because you do not have face to face dealings with other people does not mean your actions or attitude won’t affect them. I am a Help Desk Manager and I am the middle-man between the user and the tech. It is important that techs realize they are providing customer service just like everyone else. Soft skills are important in any job.
Kudos to the manager who sees the qualities as well as the faults in his subordinate.
A manager is someone who manages people and/or projects.
In any case, you are still dealing with other personalities and need to have the following qualitites:
Compassion, patience, organization, willingness to go with the flow (change in environment)and the ability to do what this manager has done, see the qualities and faults of others. AND it helps to know how to approach different personalities. BUT, just because you are willing to make adjustments in your approach does not mean others are willing to change theirs.
People also learn by example. As long as you provide a good example, the real stars will shine.
Much success and luck to you and your “brilliant” employee.
