Managing a Cabling Division

By jsmerritt ·
Is there a software package out that will or could help manage cabling projects (cat 6 and fiber optic installation)? Scheduling, ongoing projects, crews, percent complete, resources need to finish projects.

Q: have you written up your standards for components (wall plates, connections, testing, etc.)?

without it there are a load of details that will escape you...

Q: have you defined the SLA that will be driving the cabling infrastructure?

Q: are you doing it yoourself or is there a vendor? a contract? an SLA? a support agreement?

let me know how it turns out....

MS Project is certainly a good choice for the scheduling aspects. As for something particular to cabling systems I have not seen anything. A good cabling template might be available for MS project. I typicaly start from scratch because the projects never seem to be the same. If you have MS project you could ask your contractor to provide the basic schedule. This is a pretty normal request.

We built our system internally, it's great, but expensive. I received this solicitation recently which looks like a lot of vendors that build these systems in one place at one time. Good Luck. http://www.afsmi.org/
