Mandrake 9.1 Hard Drive Size Error

By gybass ·
I am trying to install Mandrake 9.1 onto a 6.4 GB hard drive and will not have another OS on this machine. The BIOS does show the full hard drive size. During the install of Mandrake, when it gets to the part for partitioning, Mandrake only shows the drive as being 1.9GB. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get Mandrake so see and use the full hard drive capacity?

try using the custom partitions and choose first to erase all partitions to see if it correctly see's the hdd.

Failing that don't know. never had a linux install ever miss report hdd size except when a previous op system had been used on the drive typically NTFS in win2K or XP. Wiping the partition rebooting then doing custom drive partitions fixed such occurances.

I've tried all that. Erase, custom, automatic, etc. etc.. With the HD completely erased, Mandrake does show the drives full capacity but Mandrake will only show 1.9 GB for partitioning.

I had almost the same problem, but with the new version of Mandrake, 9.2. My hard drive was 40gb and it would only recognize 19. I did everything you did but no luck. What I ended up doing was installing a full version of windows 98, then replacing that with Mandrake 9.2. It worked it recognized almost all of my hard drive. During installation it will ask you where you want to install Mandrake. Pick the replace windows option.

I tried you suggestion last night. Installed Win98 and 98 did show the full hdd capacity. I then tried to install Mandrake 9.1 and once again Mandrake showed the hdd as only being 1.9 GB.
