When i press the power button to turn on my Dell latitude d600 i notice that all the lights (the powerlight, capslock light, number lock light, scroll lock light) above the keyboard just start flashing then stop and the machine does not come on. I will try to turn on the machine again (by pressing the power button) and the same things happens. This will go on for a number of times before the laptop finally boots to the operating system.

This will happen wheter or not the laptop is running on the batteries.

Does anyone know what causes this. Its an refurbished dell laptop i bought from off ubid .

D600 Power Button (Not Starting)

by kgoode23 In reply to Manky

I also have a D600 and started to experience this same problem. About six months ago a read a message that indicated you must press the power button straight down while on the underside of the computer (opposite the start button) press up. It takes some force and practice but it eventually worked. It appears to be some sort of connection issue. I can't seem to find the original post (sorry about that).

I don't think this is a motherboard issue as many of the other messages may indicate, because when the computer does start it works fine.

By the way, I now keep my computer in suspense mode as the start button works fine to bring it out of suspense. The problem is only on start up (and not always).

I hope this information helps.
