Mannesmann Tally Won't Print in DOS

By arichart ·
I have a new XP machine that needs to print to a networked (on a Windows 2K machine) Mannsmann Tally printer in a DOS-based program. I can print to it from Windows, but DOS programs give me an error. I have tried running the Windows troubleshooting program to no avail. Any ideas?

Dos programs are completely different than windows...

I am guessing you have no printer plugged in locally to this pc...

Create a batch file and put it in the startup of that computer.

Call it... printer.bat

Inside of it, have this information:

net use lpt1 \\computername\printersharedname

So it would look like this:

net use lpt1 \\server\hp4000

*Ensure you hit ENTER after the last line... save that file. Run it. then put it in the startup after making sure it works.

This will make the dos program when it prints to LPT1 print to the networked printer.

If you are using lpt1 for something else, change LPT1 to LPT2 and also change that setting in the DOS program.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, I had tried this in DOS by running that same command, but it didn't want to work for some reason. Perfect!
