Many devices-Device Manager-safe mode

By raymond nelson ·
Why can multiple listings of devices (all the same) be seen in the Device Manager when in safe mode? This occurs in Windows 9x and with Windows NT. Example: I have found as many as six listings for floppy disk under disk drives in safe mode.

Hi.

Each entry represents the number of times the driver for the device has been re-installed. I have seen this before on many systems. The extra ones can all be deleted which without any problems. The only glitch is that you won't know which device is the one that is functional one at the moment!

I hope this helps.
Regards.

True each time the OS or hardware is reinstalled it will be noted in Safemode and it is safe to delete the duplicate listings with care that you donot delete the latest or last install with updated driver.
