Map drive is auto reconnecting

By esullivan81 ·
I have several users, I am removing their mapped drives and going to UNC. They have shortcuts to files on their desktops, and after I remove the map drive, they try and open the shortcut and it recreates the map drive. Shouldn't it bomb out? Any thoughts on what's reconnecting it?

What's in the shortcut?

If it's a BAT file, it may contain NET USE commands to reestablish the mappings.

Some proprietary software may contain code to reestablish the expected mappings if they are missing; it may be in the program configuration.

Some older software may not support UNC, and may require drive letter mapping.

No it's just a shortcut to an Excel sheet. Nothing special.
