If you want to map a drive on a workstation, you'll still have to be logged into the domain if you want to connect to the server and specify the share name.

If you want to map the drive on the server, You have to be logged in. Whether is physically at that machine or remotely.

If you want to map a network drive remotely, you need to have terminal services installed on the 2000 server, and have the terminal services client installed on whatever machine you're working on. You can connect to the server, log in, and just map the drive like you would normally.

You can also use programs like pcanywhere.

hope that answers your question.

You can map a network drive without physically being logged on to the server. But you must have the rights to the server/domain where the drive is situated.
Just right-click my computer or network places and choose map network drive, then type in the path of the drive that you want and click connect with a different user, type in the name of your domain and your username using this syntax domain\username and then you password. Remember to make sure that the option, reconnect at login is unchecked.

Number 2 is correct. You need to log on to the sever locally. Then right click on network neighorhood and choose map network drive. then the other answer is correct domain\username and domain password. You must also have rights the the network resorce you are mapping to.
