map printers through VB Scipt

By jprice ·
I know the code to map the printers through a VB script. The problem is that I want to be able to add a computer to a group and then map the computer to a printer by group.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: map printers through VB Scipt

Hello,

If your are running Windows 2003 R2 then there is the Printmanagement.msc which will allow you to do this. It requires the creation of the print server role on one of the member servers but it does integrate with AD and hence allows the mapping of a printer to a group. I found the following article very useful when I did this:

Apologies if I miss-understood your requirements.

Thanks for all your help. I knew there had to be an easier way than what I was trying.

Group Policies

My understanding is that you can map based on group membershi for users in a vb script but that to map printer based on the copmputer that you have to create an OU for the computers and a group polocy that would map the printer for all computers in that OU.

I have not done this but did look into it for the same reson.
