Maped drive won't disconnect

By Chris Willhoite ·
I have a user that had a new drive added that is now the e: drive. There was a share maped to it and the tech didn't disconnect the map untill after the new drive was put in. Now whenever the user logs in they recive the error that the drive letter is already in use. The have checked the box that tells it to never try to connect to that letter again and the error still comes back every time they log in. Is there any way I can keep the computer from trying to re-map the drive without removeing the physical drive?

maybe it is a registry problem. check for the following
User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network]
Name: RestoreDiskChecked
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)
get someone conversant with registry hacking to do it for you. back up the registry.
hope this helps

Hi,
You don't say us, which is your OS. For WinNT, Win2k or WinXP you can use disk manager utility and assign other letter to the new drive.
Also you can try to disable temporary in BIOS the new drive, boot, disconnect mapped drives/folders (rightclick on mapping and chose disconnect), restart, enable in BIOS the new drive, boot, make again necessary mappings
