Mapped drive disconnect

I have Windows 98 machines that keep losing their connection to a Windows 2000 server on the mapped drive link. We have replace all the hubs and routers but still lose connection to mapped drives at different times of the day and not all of the Windows 98 machines are doing this. Any idea's

Run this on the Win98 machines (and probably on the Win2K machine also):

NET CONFIG SERVER /AUTODISCONNECT:-1

I have seen where anti-virus software installed on the workstations has caused similar problems. Try to disable the anti-virus software on a couple of the problem workstations, then monitor and see if the problem still persists. If not then I would suggest contacting the av software support or browse their site to see if program updates are available to resolve this.

Answer 1 has the correct solution. The reason for your problem is that Microsoft sets a timeout of 15 minutes for network connections. The command in answer 1 will set the time out to being infinite.

You only need to run
NET CONFIG SERVER /AUTODISCONNECT:-1
on the Win2K Server.
By default...Win2k Server will disconnect unused resources (like a mapped drive) after about 15 mins of non-use. The command above will set the autodisconnect to DISABLED
