Under your network settings for "Client for Microsoft Networks", check the Properties and see whether the option selected is "Quick Logon" or "Logon and Restore Network Connections" .

The user maybe inadvertly disconnecting it. The laptop gets hung/stuck and the user reboots and when it can't make connection to mapped drive the user tells it not to reconnect when prompt. This is cause by lost packets in the network, somewhere on the network you have some bad hardware, NIC, hub, but I found mine to be with a couple of CAT 5 patch cables.
