Is there any way in win2k server to map ip address to a particular user name so that a particular user cannot log from PC with another IP address?

IP address is asigned to a PC not to a user. If you have problems with the IP asigment remove all local admin rights for users and make IP asigment with your hand or implement DHCP server which will manage IP for you. To restrict the no. of IP used in your network define this in DHCP scope or manualy establish a class of IP and a subnet mask.

But in fact you will asign to user the rights to use one computer not an IP.

With Windows 2000 server and active directory you can go into Active Directory Users and Computers.
Open the user you want to do this for.

On the Account tab click on the "Login on to" button.

You can pick the computer names that you want this person to be able to login too.

All the other computers will not allow that person to login. Only the ones in the list will.

Hi,

I assume you want to stop users from logging into your network from machines other than their own?

If this is the case, then you should be able to set the diskwide NTFS security up on each box (assuming the workstations are also Win2K or better) to allow only its owner (and the system and administrators) to access any of the files on that machine. That should stop them.

Cheers,
Tim.

For people who are logging onto computers located on a local lan, use the above responses. However, if a user is trying to log on via RAS connection (i.e. Dial up or VPN), you can go to AD Users & Computers, find the user and go to his/her properties, go to the dial-in tab. Then check the Assign a Static IP Address and type in the address. Apply and it should be good. May take a little while to replicate.
