what is the max. distance between two 2nd layer switches considering cat 5e

100M is the published maximum distance between two nodes with Cat 5e.

Although if the switch doesn't boost the signal then this distance would be between the two devices that are trying to handshake.

3COM garanteed that if you are using NICs manufactured by them the distance can be expanded by 50-80 meters, so it will be 150-180 form a CAT5e
