Max number of files in one directory

Does anybody know what the maximum number of files that can be held in one directory is?
Under W2k.

Workstation Resource Kit, chapter 18, p.613:

"There is no specific limit to the number of files on an NTFS volume.
However, you will not be able to create any new files when your volume is so full that Windows NT cannot allocate another entry inthe MFT."
