I am running an aging Dell desktop (XPS Gen 4) which is based on the Intel 925XE chipset. I currently have 2 gigs of PC-4200 RAM. As I am still running Windows XP, I don’t really think I need more than 2 gigs, but thought I might benefit from faster RAM.
The 925XE chipset has an 800 MHz FSB, but I don’t know what speed of RAM it will support. Crucial’s website says PC-6400 (800 Mhz) RAM will be “compatible” but will this RAM actually run at 800 Mhz in my system or will it be limited by the motherboard/Bios to a slower speed (and thus defeat the point of the upgrade)?
