You haven't offered much info on where you've looked or what OS you've installed on. However, try Start -> Programs -> Network Associates (or possibly McAfee VirusScan if not a W2K system)-> VirusScan Console. Then select Vshield -> Properties. The tabs for email scan, download scan and internet filter will appear and from each you can select the Properties button to configure what you need. This is from a W2K system.

This is from version 5.21 on a W98 system.

You can right click on the sheild icon in the system tray to enable some options.

Or, right click on the magnifying glass icon in the tray.
Select restore, and click on configure.

Or, run the program from the desktop Icon, or the start menu (Virus Scan Central)
Click on options and v-shield properties.

Note: the e-mail scan feature is only for "corporate" mail programs. For Outlook and OE type mail programs, the options for scanning the mail are part of the Internet scanning settings.
(what options you have set for internet scanning, are what options are enabled for the e-mail)

You should be able to download and install the upgrade to 5.21.
Also, use the update feature at least once a week to keep the virus deffinitions up to date.
