The first

by Siliconwombat In reply to MCDST in the making.

Hi. This is the first post of my blog so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Thomas Whateley. I live in Ashford in Kent, England and Im 22.Ive been interested in computers all my life and started teaching myself some of their secrets as a teenager through the regular destruction of windows 98.The only qualification I have at the moment is a GCSE in IT. I started looking for a new job and I thought I could possibly use the knowledge I already have in a new position. As I looked around I kept coming upon requests for MCSE and MCSA etc when I looked into these qualifications I decided I wasnt quite ready for them, so I thought the MCDST was a good starting point. What Ill try to do with this blog is detail my progress through the self paced book for the first exam, then the exam, and then the second book and examI aim it to be a sort of guide to what the course is like for those who come after but also as a means of gaining from the vast experience so many of you have on these forums.

Tier 1?

by Siliconwombat In reply to MCDST in the making.

Well the first chapter was quite interesting as it gives an insight into what a desktop support technician actually does. Though I did think that the tier system sounded a little hashed together. I suppose it is only a guide but it seemed there was a big gap between a user being able to open an email and then suddenly being able to fix things a tier 1 dst cant? By that system my mother can fix more problems on her computer than I should be able to. Second chapter looks a lot more promising for the real information. Also Im going to apologise for any big gaps between posts now as Im busy with a lot of other things at the moment, that is of course assuming anyones reading this!<br />
