Microsoft Certifications

by TechnicalValues In reply to Mcs or Mcse & Mcsd

Mcs? Do you mean MCP?

MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) would be your first step to either MSCE or MCSD.

The choice between MCSE & MCSD lies in what you desire to do for a career.

If you want to do programming/development work, go with the MCSD (4 exams - 3 required, 1 elective). There are three routes to choose from: C++, VB, and Foxpro. Personally, I'm working on VB.

If you want to do Network Engineer/Administration then go with the MCSE - You'll need to do 7 exams for the 2000 track. I'm a NT4 MCSE and may go to 2000 if it becomes necessary for my job.. but, I've found that development work pays better so I'll focus more on my MCSD certification.

What about the beginning consultant?

by trevorsayle In reply to Microsoft Certifications

I have worked as a contractor for almost 2 years and lately was a theoretically permanent employee for the last year. I say theoretically cause I was layed off just recently. I was working in a new technology developing ISP environment. Now I am seriously considering to becoming just a consultant for doctors and other businesses. I am currently going for my MCSD and finishing up my CCNA. I figured that those two would be a great combination in skills. What I want to know is should I take a course in business? Should I get my CCDA and later moving to a CCDP? Any suggestions from people who have done this or have some insight would be much appreciated. Mind you all I am only 22 years of age and feel that my age will be my biggest obstacle. Anyone have another take on that? Thank you for your patience and consideration in reading this post.

The only problem with these certification is the rate at which newer versions of the microsoft products change thus outdating the leaners very fast.
