MCSD

I am an MCSE and am looking at programming as a supplement. What is a good track to follow for MCSD? Is there a lesser cert.? something like MCP+Internet? Nothing too hardcore and I would prefer if it were geared toward Internet Technologies. Any info isgreatly appreciated.

Take a look at the MCP+SiteBuilding certification. It's not easy but is a bit less work than MCSD, it is also geared toward internet development. You need to pass two tests, your choices are Interdev, FrontPage, and SiteServer. Don't underestimate the tests because they cover much more than just the product. Hope this helps!

If you are really interested in programming then I would suggest starting out with VB or Access (w/VBA), even without your MCSD you can show that you have the skills to develop well written applications. I would suggest the BrainBench exams for VB to both test your skills and to use as a certification to show your abilities while you are working on your MCSD.

In addition to the normal study guides, I would suggest that you check out books like "Writing Solid Code", "Debugging the Development Process", and "Dynamics of Software Development" by Microsoft Press. Later, I would also suggest that you check out the books "Advanced Visual Basic", "Hitchhiker's Guide to Visual Basic and SQL Server" and "Hardcore Visual Basic" to show you someof the extra tricks that are available for VB programmers.

Good Luck in your development career path!
Jeff

If you don't already have VB, you might check out the MS Press book Learn MS VB 6 Now
