MCSE- best books and timeline

By ciacob ·
Im getting ready to start studying for my MCSE. I have a little over one years experience in IT plus a four year degree. Im thinking of taking the 70-290 (managing and maintaining a Server 2k3 environment) first. What resources have you guys found helpful, and in how much time should I plan on scheduling the exam? I understand it all depends on effort, but Im just looking for ideas here. Thanks,

so mcse huh.... well how have u planned to study by yourself or thru some institute as if u study thru some institute there are chances of you getting some dumps to brush up better for the exams. studying alone then u might need to get some dumps from the net .... all the best the exams are pretty complicated as in now as they have introduced simulations which i didnt get a year back...... so all the best dude, be well prepared for the exams or else back out ....

Books + hardware + eval software

I personally used the Sybex books, some spare hardware, and the evaluation editions of MS products to study with. I worked though the labs, created my own scenarios, and when it came to the exams I flew through them.

Was there any particular reason why you're thinking of taking the 290 exam first? Maybe you should consider doing the XP desktop OS exam first, so that you can get a feel for how the exams are presented.

Great Idea...

I like your approach. It's been recommended by a few engineers that I respect, and I think it is the approach I will take.

Im taking the 290 first on advice from one of the engineers I work with, and the books are readily available so I don't have to purchase them. I have a box im going to dedicate to Server 2k3, and a laptop im going to use as an XP client for the lab work. Wish me luck!
