Try a repair install of windows over itself.

Enter safe mode and go to control panel open the system icon, go to device manager and look for anything with a yellow ! or ?. Delete these and reboot, this will cause windows to reload the drivers for the "NEW" devices. If this fails.

Prior to restoring/reloading the system, you may want to enter safe mode and in the start -> run box type "MSCONFIG". Under the startup tab uncheck the programs not required to start windows. System tray and taskbar controls are all that are needed.

From what I could find in the MS knowledge base 06: error is a software conflict from trying to load too many programs at one time.

First, run msconfig (in safe mode) and disable all startup items.

If PC will then boot into normal mode, check for adware/spyware/viruses (malware).

If you do not already have anti-virus software, download and install AVG Free available at grisoft.com.

For adware/spyware removal, I recommend:

Ad-Aware SE - available at download.com
Spybot - also available at download.com

If disabling Startup items does not help, you may have a driver issue. Already have good advice above regarding drivers.

A repair install of Me is considerably different from XP. Post a comment to question if you need instructions for a repair install. It's pretty straight forward, but you must know how.

ME should be recalled. Just format and reload with XP
