media player doesn't open files directly

By Mark ·
When I try to play a media file from the internet, the media player launches, but then gives an error that it can't play the file. I tried to update the media player to version 7 and it does the same thing, but it does give an error number C00D10B3 but says no help is available for that error. I can do a "save as" on the link and put it locally on my hard disk and then click on it and it opens fine, but this is inconvenient and would like to know if someone can point me to a fix.

Well you didn't give info on os and browser version. Why not goto "Windows Update" ( located in several places on your system ..under tools at the top of your browser..or hit the star button ..or hit start button and look under settings) and t download IE6 and any other updates there are. Do them one at a time. Also try deleting your temp internet files..goto tools up top and goto internet options ..there select "Delete files" under Temp internet files...good to do this once in a while..

Been there, done that. I think this is a registry problem.

I discovered the problem was from zonealarm. I had installed zonealarm and apparantly it makes some registry changes cause even though I wasn't running it anymore it was causing this problem. I opened zonealarm and turned security to minimum. Then turned it back off again and it solved this problem. I discovered this tracking down a "Ping" problem which was caused by the same thing.
