Medical Office Automation Help

By slbsmith103 ·
I work in a medical office where there is little to no automation when it comes to keeping the appointment book schedule, or having a system where all information is shared by programs to make new client info and documentation creation easier.
We currently use Medisoft (a very old version) but that's all they have. They send off copies of the daily client roster to a separate billing company, make copies of all checks and send out for processing. Each separate step has to be done manually and verifying insurance coverages are laborious. No processes can be done effortlessly unless done by hand, writing everything, making tons of copies, literally killing trees everyday... They has asked for my input for some automation and look to this site and its users for any insight, assitance and/or guidance. Do you have any suggestions as far as programs available with moderate expense?
Please note, we have to also remain compliant with HIPAA regulations... Any info anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. I'm sooo frustrated.
Signed, At My Wits End....

Try re-posting in the Q&A section

The 'Discussion' forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The 'Water Cooler' is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to 'Q&A' here:;content

There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you'll find more of those members in 'Q&A' than in 'Discussions' or 'Water Cooler'.

Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a '+' does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won't need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as "The Answer". . .

You could try Open EMR

But just like everything Medical there are limits and using this sentence "as far as programs available with moderate expense?" is a straight out Oxymoron. I have yet to run across anything related to Medical Work and Moderate Expense where those 2 terms can be used int he same sentence.

I would also suggest looking at the newest version of Medisoft since you already have it as you'll most likely find that there have been changes but I'm willing to bet that any Upgrade isn't going to be Cheap. Though I have never found any Cheap Medical Program or for that matter a Cheap to Use Medical Partitioner. They all seem to not want to pay while getting the most that they possibly can in return both for what they use and what they do.
