Memory & Performance Tuning in SQL Serve

By aflvs3 ·
Hi,

I am new to Sql Server 7.0 environment. Previously I handled Oracle Administration. Now I switched over to SQL Server administration.

Can u give me some tips to tune the memory or Performance of SQL Server to atmost level?

I am very much obliged if u give me any technical inputs to tune memory/performance.

I hope that i will get more infmn. on the above mentioned subject in my mail box soon.

Thanks in advance.

Srini

Microsoft knowledgebase article Q135684 is a good place to start. There are more articles inside that one.

Hi!.
For improove performance
1. Let the SQL server dinamically configure
memory, but leave at least 32 MB for OS
2. Disable "Boost priority" switch
3. Set "Maximum worker threads" to number of
avg connections to your server
4. Disable "Auto update statistics" and "Auto create statistics" on your's databases. Run sp_CreateStats and sp_UpdateStats regulary instead. (in sp_CreateStats - error, for corrected proc mail me)
5. Regulary run dbcc dbreindex on each table in your database (for automation use cursor)
6. Correctly plan your database and use
indexes ;-)
