Memory Probs With T-Bird and FIC mobo

By tdb566 ·
I am running a 1.3GHz Athlon Thunderbird processor on a FIC AD-11 motherboard. I purchased 2 sticks of 256Meg DDR PC-2100 ram to use in the system. The Mobo manual says it supports up to 1Gig PC 2100 memory in the 2 Dimm slots. The system runs finewith just one stick in the first bank, (either one, so the memory is good). However if i put both sticks in Windows won't even finish startup without some sort of protection error.

Its seems you have problems in your MoBo. If is still in warranty period, get a new one.
I think you problem is in the memmory bus and your most common error is VMM32 module exception.

I agree with the first answer, but it might be something very simple. Use a good-quality magnifying glass and carefully inspect the second DIMM socket for foreign debris or an out-of-place contact (that you might be able to push back in place.) Don't damage the board, because you may still have to return it! Look for any seating problem or problem with the levers' operation, too.
Typically, the motherboard should operate with one DIMM in either socket, so if you can't get it to run using only the second socket and there are errors when both sockets are filled (with good memory), then it's time to get a replacement board.

Hi just a thought but it may be a difference between the ram chips which mean they won't work together but either one works on its own.

Hi I'm sorry for not being clear I did not mean that they maybe a different make/type, just not able to work together in your make of mobo the only way to find out is to beg borrow steal more memory to try.
