memory probs

i have recently installed a 256 pc100 memory chip in my k62 450 but it is only showing 128meg is their a logical reason for this i have tried it in my other machine (duron) and it appears correct?

Most logical reason would be your motherboard only supports up to 128 meg chips. Otherwise if you already had 128 in and left that in in an attempt to reach 384 meg, remove the 128 and see if the memory was just not compatible with each other. Good luck!

Check your BIOS to see if it recognized total amount of RAM.
Like last response your new RAM might not compatible with your motherboard.

opatzG is likely correct.

Also, many older motherboards cannot detect al the RAM on newer DIMMs.

Some can only address single density DIMMs, while some can handle both single and dual density.

The newest DIMMs are quad density.

Keep in mind, that Windows 9X / Me has a bug, and can lockup with more that 511MB of RAM installed.

Your board may be capable of taking up to (X) amount of RAM but each slot is probably limited to no more than 128MB RAM in a system of that age.Also might try placing new RAM in first slot.
