Memory Upgrade not recognized by NT Serv

By complexmind ·
I have a DEll 1300 that I added 256 MB to for a total of 512 MB. When the machine came up it said "Memerory change" and I checked the BIOS. BIOS reports 512 MB.

When NT4 comes up it shows 256 MB.

Any ideas? Thanks,

Johnny F.

Find your boot.ini file. It has a /MAXMEM switch that can be limiting the maximum amount of memory NT is allowed to use. The boot.ini file is hidden and you will have to change the attributes to edit it (be sure to change them BACK!!). Let me know if this doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks Bill!

I did not realize there was a parameter for memory in a boot.ini file. Sure enough, there was a /MAXMEM of 256 set. Changed it to 512 and it worked fine.

Thanks.
