Menu Delay in IE

By Curious_George ·
Question background:
W2K Pro & IE5.5

When I right-click a link in IE there is about 1.5 sec. delay before the menu appears on screen.

This is not affected by the HKCU\ControlPanel\Desktop\menushowdelay
setting.

Question:
What is the method to reduce this delay time?

My first guess would be you are maxing out your RAM. 2K PRO is a memory hog anyway. If you are running a lot of memory robbing plugins for IE, or have other programs (MP-3's?) running at the same time as IE it can slow the whole process down.

Right click on your task bar and choose Task Manager from the menu. Click on the performance tab and that will give you an idea of what resources you are using.

Hope this helps.

Don't be offended that your answer didn't help, this system is a PIII 500 w/ 256Meg RAM. If IE is the only app open the performance is still the same. I'm convinced it is a timer setting in the registry, because the delay time is always the same.

No offense taken.

When ever there is a slow down in response the first thing to check is memory usage.

I'll hammer my test machine and see what I can find.

Good Luck
