Merging in WORD XP

By IPCTrain ·
Is there a way to merge a form protected document without unprotecting prior to the merge? Client has a Lease Agreement, and is merging it with Acess Table. However does does want the content of Lease Agreement changed in any way other than for the merged fields. WORD does not allow protected documents to merge?

Create a macro, by recording your actions, to unprotect the document, perform the merge and then reprotect the doc.
It works slicker than you might think.

Answer one is probably the best solution but if you have the disk space you could copy the document being merged from merge from it and refresh it when needed. The copy could be unprotected or on a ramdrive to avoid licence problems. This answer presumes you are using a data base file of somesort to merge from in a mail merge situation. if the file is too big to copy you will have to unprotect it and reprotect it. Merging from it shouldn't alter it in any way.
