Merging NTFS partition !!

By edmond_sng ·
Hi,

There are 4 NTFS partitions on my Laptop. My laptop is running windows2000 pro. The C-drive is running out of space now. Can I merge C-drive with let say D-drive or do we have to use software like Partition magic? A friend told me that wecan merge 2 NTFS partition using disk management in WinNT4.0 server. Please suggest.

Regards,
Edmond

You cannot directly merge partitions using the included disk management tools. You can extend a partition by adding available free space to that partition. In order to do this in Win2K, the disk the partition sits on must have been created as a Dynamic disk. Because the the system/boot partition was created as a Basic disk during the installation process, you cannot extend the system/boot partition.

Partition Magic does appear to allow you to extend the system/boot partition but you may want to check with the publishers (www.powerquest.com) first.

Hope this helps.

In past instances, I've been able to use partition magic to increase the size of a partition. It should work for you.

Cheers,
