is there a piece of software that enables a someone to dial your home number plus and extension and leave a message on your computer instead of a regular answering machine? i’ve looked but i haven’t found anything. thanks

  Yes there is. Usually it came with a fax/modem. I never used it though… http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Search/tapi.html is one hit for a google of “TAPI answering machine”

  If you have a modem, the manufacturer may have vmail software for it. If not, here is a link to one that I found
