Messaging from Server to Clients

By satya_aditya ·
Ours is Windows NT Server and it is connected to LAN with Windows 95/98 as Clients, to pass the message from server to clients both should have NT technology but our clients are windows 98. my question is how to pass the message from server to client when server as NT and client as Windows 98. if there is any DOS mode method to pass the message please mention it.

thank you

Messaging from Server to Clients

Hi,
NT sends messages via the NET SEND command, you can view the options by typing

NET HELP SEND
at a command prompt. To receive the messages, your 9X clients need to be running winpopup utility. Installation instructions can be found in technet article Q132887 search for that string at www.microsft.com/technet

Interoperability between winpopup and NT is covered in article Q137143

Hope this helps...

The command is:
NET SEND computername message

You can use * in place of the computername above in order to send to everyone in your group.
You can use the NET SEND from any computer in the network to any computer in the network.

All versions of Windows (within a networked environment) allow NET SEND.

Hello there,

YES, you can use NET SEND (Client's IP address) or NET SEND * if you want to send it to everyone on your network. It doesn't matter if it is Windows NT, Windows 98/95 or W2K as long as they are connected to the network and you know their IP address.

Good luck,
@lberto

thanks for the response but iam not satisfied with this answer becuase here in our office all the clients won't use winpopup and i want to send the messages to their desktops not to the winpopup because last week when of our system got virus which is worm virus and mm(mass mailer) virus and it is spreading to the LAN systems also and it became tough job to communicate the message but fortunately we could solve the problem when we found that virus and removed it. now we don;t want to repeat thatsort of things again. you kindly give the necessary solution for my question.

thank you.
