'Messenger Service' stuck on my computer

By laura_mon18 ·
I have a consistantly reoccurring window titled 'messenger service'on my desktop and it comes back even when I close it. The messages in the window vary from text adverts for pornogrphic websites to what i assume are mock 'warnings' claiming that my system is broadcasting its IP address all over the web, and that to stop it i need to go to www.endmessenger.com. I am not terribly IT literate and so i have not visited the afore mentioned site due to fears that i may pick up more viruses in the process. Please can you give me some guidance on how to get rid of this nuisance and tell me if it can do my system any harm.

Go into Administrative tools and then services

Turn off the Messenger Service

Make sure it is set to manual or disabled

I did exactly as you said, i disabled the messenger, but it it still there and continues to reappear. Is it worth going to the site that it mentions?

Did you also stop the service or reboot? Setting it to manual or disabled is what the service will do at bootup. Stopping it AND setting it to manual or disabled is what you really need.

No, I would not go to that site. If they're using a security hole in Messanger, how could you trust their site?

If you prefer to remove Windows Messenger manually, click Start, Run and enter the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
