I am trying to run a piece of software in a windows environment and I keep getting error:

mhsshell caused a general protection fault
    in module mfc250.dll at 0012:00003ffe

Is there anything short of reinstalling windows that I can do to get rid of this error? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not sure what mhsshell is? Problem may be with that program, or a corrupted mfc250.dll; try downloading a new .dll here:

      http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/M.html

Copy to your Windows\System32 directory and restart.

      Delete the temporary files from
c:\windows\temp director as well as the internet temporary files from
c:\windows\internet temporary files. Then run DEFRAG and Scandisk.

Normally that will solve the problem. If not, the executable of the piece of software you’re trying to run is corrupted. If you have verified that it’s not, then you have no choice but re-install Windows.

      Here’s what you would do:
Rename the Explorer.exe from c:\windows directory. Have the Product ID available. Reinstall Windows on the same directory,
c:\windows. If Windows suggests c:\windows00 as new Windows directory, click Other Directory button and you can edit the path by deleting the two zeros at the end of the path. This will update the corrupted system files but preserves all the settings and configuration. All your apps will work with no problem.

      Good luck!
