MFT too large

By Obersturnbanfuhrer ·
On my second partition of my harddisk, the size of the MFT is 1.5GB with 5% of usage. How to reclaim the reserved space back?

I use Win XP Pro SP2 with NTFS file system.

maybe nowaddays there is defrag for this built into xp. but back in the day (tease) we had to backup the hd, reformat it, put the folders back on first then the data. or use tool like diskkeeper from executive software to do it. takes a reboot.
back in the day when i had time to care how big my mft is, i found many interesting articles about it at executive softwares fantastic knowlegebase. hih

Diskeeper only can set the minimum amount of reserve space for MFT but it doesn't allow to reduce the maximum limit of it. I can reduce the minimum to 1MB, but the max allowable is still untouch, that is still 1.5GB.

Correction:
Diskeeper only can set the minimum amount of space for MFT, but it must me within its specified limit. I neither can reduce the MFT size nor the reserved space to MFT. It only can INCREASE the MFT size, NOT REDUCE. The reserved space is still untouched, that is still 1.5GB.
