mice on a switch box

By joebrancheau ·
I use a ps2 mouse on a server with an omniview "belkin" switchbox. periodically I lose the mouse.
Is there any way to reinitilize the mouse driver in w2k?
This may be a hardware issue with the omniview switch box and nothing can be done in w2k to fix.

This sounds like you have a bad contact in your KVM switch, rather than a software problem.

In win2K, just go into device manager and right click "mice and other pointing devices", and click "scan for hardware changes". this will search for your ps/2 mouse again and will install it if possible.
if it does not install it, then the switch probably has a bad contact somewhere and should be replaced.
another possibility is that your ps/2 patch cable may be too long or of poor quality. try replacing it with a higher-quality and/or shorter extender.

I have a Belkin switch and there are some incompatabilities with certain computers. My box won't work at all with my Dell servers. I found out after checking the web. Follow up on the Belkin web site, and on the site of your PC/Server mfr. to see ifthere are any known issues. It may just need a firmware upgrade, and Belkin will provide those.
