microphone follow on

i have tryd both suggestions,all settings are as suggested,the mike works in a different pc,it came with a bacth of 20 pcs and it seems to have no problem working with them they are oem type systems and proprietry,when i test the mic in powerpoint on my laptop by recording a sound and then playing it back, i get broken low volume static sound,im using xp,also the mic built into my laptop dosnt seem to be able to pick up sound,its a advent 7000 laptop,thanks for the tips

In that case try reinstalling the sound drivers as it is very unlikely that both the inbuilt Mic and a plug in one are both faulty or in this case the socket for the plug in Mic although it's possible.

If replacing the sound drivers don't fix the problem then you most likely have a faulty Mic connection on the M'Board and being a NB this isn't a good thing. It's always possible that someone broken this particular unit but try reinstalling the sound drivers first and then if that doesn't work try reloading Windows and any associated drivers that are required. It's worth the time and effort if it cures the problem and if not you have some spare parts available for the other NB's in that Job Lot.
