If you install a newer version of Microsoft Access files on top of an existing older version of Access, does the new version upgrade the files automatically or is there some kind of patch you have to download so the transition goes on smoothly?

The upgrade only upgrades the programs NOT your database file (data). When you open the database in the new access program it will ask you to update the old one to the new one. It is very easy and automated after that.

Good luck.

Occasionally it will not re-register the files to Access. If it doesn't use this command on the Start/Run line: Regsvr32.exe C:\progra~1\common~1\micros~1\dao\dao350.dll

This will re-register the dll's and all will be fine.
