Microsoft Echange

I have a laptop runnig Windows XP, when I try to connect Microsoft Outlook to exchange server, I fail to get that option and connect mail as Internet mail instead of Microsoft Exchange Server. I am able to see all the machines on the network. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
