microsoft GDI tool

By byteside ·
Ok today I turned on my computer and a pop up appeared before my desktop showed up. The title bar said Microsoft GDI Tool. The message went on about something related to no video programs installed or something to that effect. I hit the X in the corner instead of the OK button that was available. It appeared to quickly install something. I noticed this same pop up on my Husbands computer yesterday when he booted up but his message was about lack of security not video programs. It had the same title bar Microsoft GDI tool. Does anyone know what this is?

it is ok. it is a startling new tool from microsoft to check your system out for a security vulnerability and patch it. some folks are having trouble getting the program satisfied and it keeps coming back up. if you are not having this problem, don't worry about it. if you do not like this stuff, turn off automatic updates in control panel. but i would leave it on. and do backups
