When you say you don't have the option to do so, do you mean it's greyd out, or the little computer icon with Microsoft DNS service is just not there?

If the server is not a member of a domain and is not a domain controller, I don't think you can set up DNS (DOMAIN Name Service) on it. This service is specifically used to provide ip-to-name resolution in a domain environment, so you have to be ina domain environment to run it. Hope this helps!

Sounds like your server is is a member server and not a PDC or BDC. A member server is not set up to do the same as a Domain Controller. You have two options, 1.) Make sure you have a backup of everything on the server, programs and data. Formatand reinstall. 2.)Purchase another server and install it as PDC. If you only have this server it sounds like there are not many users, should be less than 10, if you have a failrly powerful spare system hanging around you could use that a temp PDCwhile rebuilding the server. You might not like the answers, but you have to rebuild the system one way or another to accomplish this.
