Microsoft Office

By carlockhart59 ·
I'm having problems editing and saving files within any application in Microsoft. My operating system is XP. What happens is that I'll pull up a file to edit and I can click all over the screen but it will not allow me to type, delete, or even save.

While different if this is a new machine it may be because the Office Product has not been Activated. Also if some parts have been changed you'll need to activate it again but it should be asking for this.

Are you using Office 2000 or higher on XP? If not that could be the problem as those older versions of Office are not supported by XP.

A little more information wouldn't go astray as it's a bit hard to know what is exactly going on like the Version of Office and Service Pack Number installed and that includes Office Small Business Edition, Professional or whatever and the version like Office 97, 2000 XP 2003 and so on. If it has been working previously and for how long. If you have added anything new to the unit even a MS Patch and if you have installed SP2 or not.

If you would like to add a bit more information I'll try to help you but other than the fairly generic info above there isn't much more advice that I can offer.

Just another thought. If you have a 2003 ES Server there that could be the reason if the files are stored on the Server it can have user options set and you may not be able to actually work on the document buy only look.

If that is the case you'll need to contact the proper person and arrange to have your User Status upgraded. The same should apply to outgoing E-Mails as well they can now be controlled and prevented from being altered Saved forwarded on or even printed.

I don't know if that is of any help but that's the best that I can think of without knowing more about the setup.

This is just a simple problem which you can resolve by yourself. When you open any microsoft application (for eg: msword) You open the word file which you could not able to do any sort of editing. Go to Tools menu and click on the unprotect document and enter the password. You would be able to edit the entire file.

If you still persist problem with that file. You can contact me any time on daya_hs@yahoo.com.

Col,

Office 97 works just fine on XP. Haven't tried earlier version (95), but suspect it will work as well. Office 2003 requires W2K, XP, or 2003 Server as OS though.

Carlockhart,

Is this occurring in all Office apps or just Word. If Word only, search for and delete normal.dot file.
