Microsoft Outlook 2007

I am a DBA and have no clue on exchange or very little. My issue is that I am located in the DMZ and only have access to send Outbound email SMTP thru our MTA MAIL Relay.

I have an application that I would like to use the email listening.

i am told I will need to install the outlook client and use the pop 3 or IMP4. My problem is the exchange server is behind the firewall and not accessable to me in the DMZ dose anyone have any Ideas how I could have access to my mailbox with out causing big security issues. And if I have to be moved behind the firewall with the exchange server what benifits would that be verses being in the DMZ???.

thank you
