File mapisp32.exe has failed on Microsoft Outlook and I cannot receive new mail. How can I reinstall the file to get Outlook working again?

Depending on your version, type the following in the address box of I.E.
For Outlook 97

MSKB Q296409

For Outlook 2000

MSKB Q283175

I have typed what you suggested in the address box of Internet explorer, nothing was found.

First thing I would do is run scandisk just to make sure it is not a section of the disk that has got corrupted. Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Scandisk

Second, if you have another computer with Outlook on it copy the Mapisp32.exe from that computer onto a floppy and then copy on to the one with the corrupted file.

On my computer the file was located on C:\Program Files\Common Files\SYSTEM\Mapi\1033\95 but you can just use the find command under the start menu to locate it. Copy to same position on the computer with the problem.

Third, if the above can't be done then try reinstalling Outlook and it should rebuild this file.

Goodluck

Sorry, I forgot, before reinstalling check to see old file still exists. If so then rename it says with extension old.

The problem has been solved by another user yet I think he used the method to which you are referring.

This is the article the previous post was referring to:

SYMPTOMS
When you try to start Outlook 97, you may receive the following error message:

MAPISP32 caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll
Neither uninstalling and then reinstalling both Outlook and Office 97 nor using the Office 97 CD to replace Mapisp32.exe resolves the behavior.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, rename the Mapi32.dll file and then reinstall Outlook to place a new copy of Mapi32.dll on your computer.

To rename the Mapi32.dll file:

Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.

In the Named box, type Mapi32.dll.

In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.

Right-click the Mapi32.dll file, click Rename, and then type Mapi32.old.

Press ENTER to accept the name change.

If there are multiple copies of Mapi32.dll, rename them all.

To reinstall Outlook:
If you have recently received an Invalid Page Fault error message, restart your computer to clear the memory.

With no programs running, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office 97, and then click Add/Remove.

In the Office 97 Setup Maintenance Wizard, click Reinstall.

Continue with any other dialog boxes in Setup to perform the reinstallation.

HTH

Richard
