Microsoft SMS Systems Management Server

By knowles_s ·
I have installed SMS 2.0 Srv.PK3. on nt4.0 server which is a MEMBER server. SMS doc. says when the logon discovery options are enabled the PDC and BDC logon scripts will be modified. SMS has NOT done this. Does SMS need to be installed on a PDC or a BDC ? My clients are not being found. I can run smsman.exe on a client manually and sms will find the client this way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Does your logon script have an filename extension?

Only existing logon scripts that have a filename extension will be modified by this process. Logon scripts not having an extension will be ignored.

This allows some control over which clientswill receive the SMS Client via the discovery process. A client with a logon script without a file extension, would not have had his logon script modified, and hence will not trigger the SMS client installation process.

Generally SMS is installed on a member server; but the managing accounts are created and shared on the PDC and BDC within the domain.

The discovery should be automatic. Sounds as if something is not setup properly.
