I have a windows xp home edition cmoputer that, on startup, would go to start normally, last known configuration, or boot safe mode. It would not start normally, kept returning to the same screen, booted in safe mode and was able to do a restore point. In downloading updates from microsoft, the same thing happened. I did another restore and started doing updates one by one instead of all at once. UPdate KB920178 seems to be causing the issue. I did a virus scan and did discover and removed a couple of virus’ but am still having the same trouble. Is there a fix or is it better to reformat the pc and start fresh? I’m leaning toward reformat anyway due to virus issues.
